American Express EveryDay® Credit Card Review

Best for: frequent travelers who need lots of benefits

Millions of U.S. merchants accept American Express credit cards, making it one of the most useful ways to make purchases, and get rewards. If you are looking for a flexible credit card, with American Express’ world-famous features, the EveryDay might be the card for you.

The basics of the American Express® EveryDay® Credit Card

  • Annual Percentage Rate: New EveryDay members pay 0% interest for the first 15 months. Thereafter, a variable 14.99%-25.99% APR applies.
  • Annual Fee: $0
  • Reward Rates: American Express’ Membership Rewards program awards one point for every dollar you spend on eligible purchases using the EveryDay card. You earn double points on up to $6,000 per year in eligible purchases at U.S. supermarkets (excluding superstores such as Walmart and Target).
  • Introductory Offer: New cardholders who use the EveryDay card to make at least $1,000 in eligible purchases during the first three months of membership earn 15,000 bonus points.

The Amex EveryDay’s standout features

  • American Express’ Roadside Assistance Hotline, no-cost collision and comprehensive coverage on car rentals, travel accident insurance and Global Assist Hotline are huge travel perks.
  • When you link your American Express account with participating online merchants, you can pay for purchases using your membership rewards points.
  • Use the Amex EveryDay card to purchase warrantied items and American Express will extend the manufacturer’s warranty by up to two years.
  • If you try to return an item purchased with the EveryDay card and the merchant refuses to take it back, American Express will issue you a refund. The return protection benefit has a maximum of $300 per item and $1,000 per year, and only applies to purchases made in the United States and U.S. territories.
  • The Amex purchase protection feature pays for damaged or stolen items you buy with your EveryDay card. The coverage applies to the first 120 days following the purchase date, with a $1,000 per occurrence and $50,000 per year limit. Purchase protection is not available for residents of some areas.
  • With the American Express app, available for Android and Apple devices, you can check your account balance, get special deals, receive alerts and set reminders.

Best way to use the American Express® EveryDay® Credit Card

With no interest for 15 months, it makes good financial sense to transfer balances from your high interest cards to the Amex EveryDay card. Use the time to pay down the balance, while receiving membership rewards as you make new purchases.

Double points for travel purchases makes the EveryDay card the best way to buy airline tickets, book hotel accommodation and pay for cruise packages. Protect yourself from collision and theft liability by using the card to rent cars and relax while you drive knowing Amex’s roadside assistance can help you along the way.

With double points rewards for U.S. supermarket purchases, the EveryDay card is the credit card to use whenever you buy groceries. By using the card for incidental purchases, like lunches and toiletries, you can easily earn 20% more bonus points for making 20 or more monthly transactions.

Take advantage of Amex’s purchase protection and extended warranty benefits by using the EveryDay card to make big purchases such as computers and home appliances. And save on purchases by using rewards points at participating websites.

In a nutshell

American Express cards are known for having great benefits for travelers, and the EveryDay card is no exception. With double rewards points on purchases made through the American Express Travel website, rental car coverage and travel accident insurance, it pays to have the EveryDay card in your wallet when you hit the road.

The American Express Gold Card has a beefier benefits package, but its $250 annual fee makes it less attractive for some credit card shoppers. However, the Gold Card does not charge foreign transaction fees, while the EveryDay card charges 2.7% of the transaction amount.

The EveryDay card offers the flexibility to carry a balance, which is a big plus for families on a budget. American Express’ Pay It and Plan It programs help you pay down your balance on your terms.

The EveryDay card is a great choice for people who do not need the full benefits of the Gold Card and for those who do not want to pay an annual fee.
